Role Description: Migrateful Cookery Class Facilitator

Hours: 1 – 2 classes a week depending on customer demand. Approx: 4 – 8 hours a week

Location: London, North London and other kitchen locations around London

Payment: £10 per hour

Reports to: Jess Thompson – Project Manager or Isabel Sachs – Cookery Class Coordinator

Responsibilities include:

  • Facilitate Migrateful cookery sessions taught by our chefs in client’s homes.
  • Assist with the basics of food and kitchen safety and food preparation
  • Help set up each class by bringing all equipment (portable stoves, pans and others as applicable) and take down all equipment for classes
  • Deliver a Health & Safety briefing before each class starts
  • Assist with creating lesson time plans and recipes with Project Manager
  • Check all kitchen equipment is available and ready for learners upon arrival
  • Supervise participants, encouraging proper techniques and correcting as needed
  • Provide regular feedback to Project Manager after each class
  • Help clean used equipment until end of session

Person specification:

  • Food Safety in Catering Level 2 certificate desirable
  • Proven skills and knowledge in delivering cookery classes or events
  • Experience of teaching vulnerable adults and young people
  • Previous experience working with asylum seekers and refugees desirable
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to deal with, and have empathy for a diverse range of people including vulnerable groups
  • Ability to take initiative, be flexible and think creatively
  • Capacity to inspire and motivate others
  • Enthusiasm, energy and a positive attitude
  • Able to create an enjoyable atmosphere through group facilitation eg: asking everyone to introduce themselves at the beginning of the class
  • To be invested in Migrateful’s mission and to be able to deliver this message to class participants
