Abeti from the Congo

My name is Abeti and I’m from Kinshasa in the Democratic Republic of Congo. I have a teaching diploma and used to teach in a nursery school.  I was also a political activist protesting against the lack of democratic elections. The situation in DRC has become very difficult with brutal political repression and at the end of 2016 I was arrested and put in jail.  I managed to escape but had to flee the country as I was in danger.  I have been here for a year, and am trying to rebuild my life but it is very difficult as my English is very poor and I miss my family.  I am always happy to find people who can speak French as this makes me feel less lonely.  I love to cook, especially family food.
