See our Food and Allergen Policy for more information. \n\n\n\n \nA MESSAGE FROM CHEF: \n“Hi\, my name is Kamial\, and I’m from Jamaica. I grew up in Spanish Town\, the capital of the Parish of St Catherine. We lived very centrally as my mum worked in the market in town\, selling fish and fresh vegetables. I would often help my mum at the market\, and I learnt to cook by watching her. Sometimes when she was working\, I would look after my younger siblings and would cook for them. My passion for cooking only grew\, and I often cooked for my neighbours and for parties and celebrations for my friends and family. I love seeing satisfaction and joy on people’s faces when I cook for them. My favourite dish is ackee and salt fish – so much so that when I moved to Antigua\, I brought an ackee tree to plant in my garden\, and this is something that I always cook for my two children. \n \nI’ve been in Bristol for a year now\, and it’s a very friendly and supportive city. I’m volunteering with local refugee charities Bristol Hospitality Network and Borderlands. When I got my refugee status last year\, I held a big picnic in the park for my friends to celebrate. Jamaican food is spicy and full of flavour\, using lots of fresh vegetables and herbs. \n \nCooking and eating Jamaican food helps me reconnect to home\, music is also very important to me\, and I love dancing while I cook – no matter what is going on in life\, it makes me feel happy. I’m very excited to share my recipes with you!” \n \nWHAT TO EXPECT AT YOUR MIGRATEFUL COOKERY CLASS \nParticipants will work together to cook a family-style meal from scratch\, guided by the expertise of a refugee or migrant chef\, before sitting down to share lunch. \nAlongside practical cooking skills\, Migrateful’s programme encourages curiosity\, empathy and cultural connection\, helping young people build a positive understanding of refugee and migrant experiences through shared food and conversation. The sessions are also designed to support wellbeing through the therapeutic and social benefits of cooking together\, while giving families new recipe ideas and the confidence to recreate the dishes at home. \nAt the same time\, the classes create paid work opportunities and experience for migrant and refugee chefs participating in our wider programme.

It is in the middle of the Silk Roads\, which means it has been a crossroads for trade and remains a melting pot of different cultures. The food culture is very colourful\, taking ingredients and flavours from many cuisines. My family is Tajik and so the food I have grown up with and will teach in my classes is based around this culture \nI learned to cook from a very young age from my mother and grandmother. The village where I grew up had cows\, sheep\, fruits and vegetables and all of my favourite recipes are based on fresh ingredients. I have nine siblings. My mother was our hero feeding her large family every day. \nCooking for my family also brings me great joy and I would love to share my recipes with you. I am from Kingston\, Jamaica. Food in Jamaica is influenced by all the different nationalities that settled there – Irish\, British\, French\, Asian\, Spanish\, American and African. Everyone wants to live in Jamaica because it is such a beautiful island! A lot of our ingredients come from other parts of the world. \nI developed a passion for cooking\, watching and helping my grandmother from the age of 8 years old. She was a great cook and baker. Even though we were poor\, my grandmother was always feeding everyone. There were always people coming over to our house for my grandmother’s food. I remember the day she let me cook was one of the best days of my life. It really boosted my confidence\, like I can do anything! Before leaving Jamaica\, I used to cook from home and sell the food for a living. My food was very popular and I really enjoyed doing it. \nWhen I moved to the UK\, I worked in a Caribbean restaurant for many years. My coleslaw was famous at the restaurant! SUMMARY:Omani Cookery Class with Hani | LONDON | Pop up
DESCRIPTION:Chef Hani will teach you some of his favourite Omani dishes followed by a sit down meal.\n\n\nABOUT THE CUISINE \nOmani cuisine blends Asian influences with aromatic spices and herbs from the Middle East that bring warmth to every dish – like Hani’s Makbous\, a popular and traditional rice dish that is known for its deep\, aromatic taste and considered a symbol of Omani hospitality. \n \nABOUT THE CHEF \nMy name is Hani\, and I come from the Sultanate of Oman — a beautiful country in the Middle East with a rich history\, deep-rooted traditions\, and a vibrant culinary culture. \nMy mum taught me to cook – she is Egyptian and I really love Egyptian food. My dad was from Oman\, and I think this has helped me create my own type of cuisine – a mix of Egyptian and Omani food. \nMy dad also loved to cook\, so I had two very good teachers. I improved my cooking skills through observing and working with chefs in my restaurant business. Now I’m in the UK\, I’m starting a new chapter and bringing with me the flavours of Oman. In Iranian culture\, preparing food for the family is often an important part of home life. To my surprise\, I learned very quickly\, and before long people were complimenting my food and asking for my recipes. I believe I owe this to my mother\, whose cooking shaped my taste and inspired me to cook with care\, attention\, and love. \nOver the years\, I have enjoyed cooking for family and friends\, especially for celebrations and special occasions. Nothing makes me happier than seeing people enjoy a meal that I have prepared. \nToday\, I enjoy sharing Iranian food with others while continuing to learn new dishes and ingredients from around the world. SUMMARY:Palestinian Cookery Class with Dr. Amna| Veg Friendly|LONDON|Cookery School
DESCRIPTION:Chef Amna will teach delicious\, authentic Palestinian dishes followed by a sit-down meal.\n\n\nABOUT THE CUISINE \nPalestinian cuisine has a rich culinary history shaped by agriculture\, trade\, and centuries of cultural exchange. From Gaza’s fresh seafood to the fertile hills of the West Bank producing olive oil\, herbs\, and vegetables\, Palestinian food is vibrant\, seasonal\, and full of flavour. Dishes like Sayadieh (seafood rice)\, stuffed vine leaves\, and crispy flatbreads are made to be shared\, highlighting the social\, hands-on nature of meals. Every dish reflects the warmth\, generosity\, and heritage of Palestinian culture. \n \nABOUT THE CHEF \nA message from chef Amna: \n“My name is Amna from Gaza\, Palestine and I came to the UK in the winter of 2022. In Gaza\, I was a university lecturer in psychology for 20 years and a director of a charity supporting mothers and children. I have 5 children: 2 daughters who still live in Gaza\, a son and daughter in Canada and a son in London. \nAs a young woman\, I lived in Libya. I married there\, brought up my children and achieved my degree and my Masters. Libya’s sky seemed open to my dreams and I was very happy there. \nWhen I first arrived in the UK\, I had nothing here and felt lonely and ashamed. I am thankful to have become part of the Migrateful family. Migrateful has helped me feel more positive and I am happy to share my food and my culture. \nWhen I cook I always think of my mother. I don’t use recipes but cook by a sense I inherited from her. My mother and father always talked about their life before Gaza – I have never been to their home in Ashdod but I feel I know it. My father caught fish\, and they always had fresh vegetables from the countryside. I am passionate about making healthy and nutritious food. It is so important for our lives and our physical and mental health. The process of cooking lifts me\, especially when I do it with others – and people are always appreciative when I offer them my food!” \n \n\n\n\nON THE MENU (subject to change): \n\nSayadieh (Palestinian Seafood Rice) | Fish (Cod and Prawns); Crustaceans\, Fish\, Gluten (Wheat)\, Milk\, Sulphites\, Tree Nuts (Almonds)\nWaraq Enab (Stuffed Vine Leaves) | Vegan; Celery\nFattet Makdous (Fried Aubergine with Tahini Yogurt & Crispy Flatbread) | Vegetarian; Gluten (Wheat)\, Milk\, Tree Nuts (Almonds)\, Sesame\, Sulphites\nSalata Falastinia (Palestinian Salad) | Vegan; Sesame\nShurbet Addas (Lentil Soup) | Vegetarian; Celery\, Milk\nFatayer Sabaanja Wa Jubneh (Flatbreads Stuffed with Spinach and Cheese) | Vegetarian; Eggs\, Gluten (Wheat)\, Milk\, Sesame\n\nThis menu contains fish (cod and prawns) but is vegetarian-friendly (5/6 dishes are meat-free). I am from the lovely island nation of Trinidad and Tobago in the Caribbean and I am the mother of two daughters. My cooking journey started over 25 years ago when I was just 10. My mother had to go to work\, leaving me to cook for my two younger siblings. At first\, I made some pretty awful dishes but with my mother’s help and encouragement\, I got better. At her suggestion\, I started cooking school and soon I was creating new dishes on my own. I then trained at the Trinidad and Tobago International Hilton Hotel and worked as a sous chef at the Carlton Savannah Hotel when Queen E stayed there in 2009. When the hotel closed\, I first started cooking for homeless people and then for children with additional needs. I became a mother figure for many of the kids and some of the older people. I have been volunteering for Praxis charity for the last year\, a charity that helps support people on their immigration journey. \nIn addition to cooking\, I am passionate about music\, dancing and laughing! SUMMARY:Pakistani Cookery Class with Amtul | Veg Friendly | Bristol
DESCRIPTION:Chef Amtul will teach delicious\, authentic Pakistani dishes followed by a sit-down meal.\n\n\nABOUT THE CUISINE \n \nWith deep roots in regional traditions and home cooking passed down through generations\, Pakistani cuisine is known for its bold spices\, fresh herbs\, and slow-cooked stews. It combines rice\, breads\, and vegetables into comforting\, shared meals full of flavour and heart. From curries and lentils to fritters and salads\, it sits within South Asian cooking while keeping its own distinct identity. \n \nABOUT THE CHEF \nA message from Chef Amtul: \n““I come from Pakistan\, it is a beautiful country. I grew up in Rabwah\, on the lush green banks of the Chenab River in Punjab. The town was established for the Ahmadiyya community. \nI remember my childhood there very fondly\, they were the happiest days of my life and still bring me peace when I think about them. From the age of 10\, I helped my mother cook\, and by 12 I was cooking properly on my own. Okra masala and aubergine curry were among the first dishes I learned to make. My father always praised my cooking and gave me confidence\, while my mother would gently suggest ways to improve. \nAfter I married\, I moved to Bahawalpur with my husband\, who is a doctor\, and together we raised our four children. But because Ahmadis face persecution in Pakistan\, it became unsafe for us to stay there. We first moved to Senegal\, where my husband helped establish the Humanity First hospital\, and later to The Gambia so our children could study in English. In 2023\, we moved to the UK. \nPakistani culture is deeply rooted in hospitality and care for others\, it is very important to make guests feel welcomed and cared for. During my time in Senegal and Gambia\, I was always hosting people visiting the hospital from different countries. I always made sure they had delicious food to eat and extras to take with them. Cooking for people has always brought me joy. I only know how to cook in large quantities! My food is spicy\, balanced\, fresh\, comforting\, and full of flavour. It combines fresh seafood\, tropical fruits\, vegetables\, grains\, and spices to create vibrant\, flavourful dishes. Meals are hands-on\, social\, and made to be shared\, with signature dishes like Ceviche\, Tigrillo\, and Empanadas highlighting the warmth\, creativity\, and communal spirit of Ecuadorian food culture. \n \nABOUT THE CHEF \nA message from our Chef Judith: \n“My name is Judith\, and I am from Ecuador\, a beautiful country in South America. I grew up in Santo Domingo de los Tsachilas\, an area located between the coast and the mountains\, so we had the best produce. I grew up in a big family where food and music were always part of our joy – we loved getting together\, sharing meals\, and dancing. In Ecuador\, you can find four seasons in one day by travelling from one part of the country to another\, and that means that you can experience many different types of food in the country. When I came to England\, I started to do some voluntary work in a ‘healthy living’ community group\, and I used to run a session on healthy eating – this is reflected in my menu today. Teaching others about Ecuadorian food helps me feel close to my country and reminds me that even far from home\, we can still celebrate who we are and connect with others through culture and food. Each dish I create carries the soul of my homeland that is inspired by the unique beauty of the Amazon\, where the jungle speaks and nature is sacred. My hands work with love\, honouring my roots and sharing a little piece of living nature with the world.” \n \n\n\n\n \nON THE MENU (subject to change): \n\nTwo Ceviche | Fish (Prawns) and Vegan; Celery\, Crustaceans\, Mustard\nTigrillo (Plantain Hash) | Vegetarian; Eggs\, Milk\, Peanuts\nEstofado de Carne y Chocolate (Beef Stew with Chocolate) | Meat (Beef); Celery\nEstofado de Vegetales (Golden Vegetable Stew) | Vegan; Celery\nEmpanadas de Viento (Cheese-Filled Pastries) | Vegetarian; Eggs\, Gluten (Wheat)\, Milk\nColada Morada (Warm Fruit Punch) | Vegan; None\n\nThis menu contains meat (beef) and fish (prawns) but is vegetarian-friendly (5/6 dishes are meat-free).
