SUMMARY:Algerian Cookery Class with Amel | LONDON | Pop up
DESCRIPTION:In this session Amel will teach delicious\, authentic Algerian dishes followed by a sit-down\, family-style meal.\n\n\nABOUT THE CUISINE \nAlgerian cuisine is a beautiful blend of North African\, Mediterranean\, and French influences — rich in spices\, seasonal vegetables\, slow-cooked stews\, and warm breads. From fragrant soups like Chorba Frik to comforting tagines and delicate pastries\, Algerian food is deeply social\, made to be shared\, and full of heritage. With flavours shaped by centuries of cultural exchange\, every dish tells a story of community\, generosity\, and home. \n \nABOUT THE CHEF \nA message from our Chef Amel: \nHi my name is Amel\, I am from Sidi Bel Abbes in Western Algeria. Our city is nicknamed ‘Petit Paris’ because there is a strong French influence. I wasn’t allowed to cook growing up because my parents wanted me to focus on my studies. I was a teacher in Algeria but wasn’t able to continue teaching when I moved to the UK in 2015. After I met my wonderful husband\, we quickly had children and I began to spend more time at home. During this time\, I realised my passion for cooking and baking. I cooked so much for my friends and family that they told me to stop as they feared they were getting fat. In the future\, I want to open my own bakery where I can share Algerian food and culture with people in London. Algeria is extremely multicultural and culturally rich\, which is something I am very proud of. I have always been a daydreamer and I really value the freedom to pursue my dreams here in the UK”. \n \n\n\n\nON THE MENU (subject to change): \n\nTagine Zitoun (Olive Tagine with Chicken and Meatballs) | Meat (Chicken and Lamb); Egg\, Gluten (Wheat)\nChorba Frik (Vegetable Soup with Freekah and Carraway) | Vegetarian; Celery\, Gluten (Wheat)\nBourek (Tuna Pastry Parcels with Cheese) | Fish (Tuna); Eggs\, Fish\, Gluten (Wheat)\, Milk\nRekhsas (Algerian Semolina and Nigella Seed Flatbread) | Vegetarian; Celery\, Milk\nSamsa b-louz (Fried Almond\, Sesame and Honey Pastries) | Vegetarian; Gluten (Wheat)\, Milk\, Sesame\, Tree Nuts (Almonds)\n\nThis menu contains meat (chicken and lamb) and fish (tuna). I love seeing satisfaction and joy on people’s faces when I cook for them. My favourite dish is ackee and salt fish – so much so that when I moved to Antigua I brought an ackee tree to plant in my garden and this is something that I always cook for my two children. \nI’ve been in Bristol for a year now and it’s a very friendly and supportive city. I’m volunteering with local refugee charities Bristol Hospitality Network and Borderlands. When I got my refugee status last year I held a big picnic in the park for my friends to celebrate. Jamaican food is spicy and full of flavour\, using lots of fresh vegetables and herbs. \nCooking and eating Jamaican food helps me reconnect to home\, music is also very important to me and I love dancing while I cook – no matter what is going on in life\, it makes me feel happy. SUMMARY:Pakistani Cookery Class with Amtul Hayee | Veg Friendly | Bristol
DESCRIPTION:Chef Amtul Hayee will teach delicious\, authentic Pakistani dishes followed by a sit-down meal.\n\n\nABOUT THE CUISINE \n \nWith deep roots in regional traditions and home cooking passed down through generations\, Pakistani cuisine is known for its bold spices\, fresh herbs\, and slow-cooked stews. It combines rice\, breads\, and vegetables into comforting\, shared meals full of flavour and heart. From curries and lentils to fritters and salads\, it sits within South Asian cooking while keeping its own distinct identity. \n \nABOUT THE CHEF \nA message from Chef Amtul Hayee: \n““I come from Pakistan\, it is a beautiful country. I grew up in Rabwah\, on the lush green banks of the Chenab River in Punjab. The town was established for the Ahmadiyya community. \nI remember my childhood there very fondly\, they were the happiest days of my life and still bring me peace when I think about them. From the age of 10\, I helped my mother cook\, and by 12 I was cooking properly on my own. Okra masala and aubergine curry were among the first dishes I learned to make. My father always praised my cooking and gave me confidence\, while my mother would gently suggest ways to improve. \nAfter I married\, I moved to Bahawalpur with my husband\, who is a doctor\, and together we raised our four children. But because Ahmadis face persecution in Pakistan\, it became unsafe for us to stay there. We first moved to Senegal\, where my husband helped establish the Humanity First hospital\, and later to The Gambia so our children could study in English. In 2023\, we moved to the UK. \nPakistani culture is deeply rooted in hospitality and care for others\, it is very important to make guests feel welcomed and cared for. During my time in Senegal and Gambia\, I was always hosting people visiting the hospital from different countries. I always made sure they had delicious food to eat and extras to take with them. Cooking for people has always brought me joy. I only know how to cook in large quantities! My food is spicy\, balanced\, fresh\, comforting\, and full of flavour. I am excited to share my recipes with Migrateful and hope you enjoy them!” \n \n\n\n\n \nON THE MENU (subject to change) \n \n\nPalak Paneer (Traditional Cheese in Spinach Curry) | Vegetarian; Milk\nChicken Mughlai (Rich Chicken Curry) | Meat (Chicken); Milk\, Tree Nuts (Pistachio\, Almond\, Cashew)\nParatha Roti (Flaky Flatbread) | Vegetarian; Milk\, Gluten (Wheat)\nRaita and Green Chutney (Yoghurt Side Dishes) | Vegetarian; Milk\nBaingan Sabzi (Aubergine Curry) | Vegetarian; Milk\nPakora (Deep-Fried Vegetable Fritter) | Vegan; None\n\n \nThis menu contains meat (chicken) but is vegetarian-friendly\, with 5 of 6 dishes meat-free. I grew up in Somalia\, East Africa\, with my mum and dad and three siblings – I’m the second oldest. I learned to cook with my Mum. She had her own recipes and her own way of cooking. I stayed at her side while she cooked – she needed my help and I was so interested. I would stand with her for six hours at a time. I stayed at school until I was 9 years old and then I stopped. But I wanted to carry on learning so I kept reading and teaching myself.  \nGradually I started cooking more\, by the age of 12 I was cooking for the family.   \n \nI came to the UK in 2004\, first to Weston Super Mare then to Bristol. I met and married my husband that same year and had my first baby in 2005. Now I have four children! As well as cooking for my family\, I cook at lunch clubs and organise celebrations and events for older people\, for women\, in schools and for young people. Always bringing people together through food. \n \nI like teaching – seeing people concentrate. When you cook\, you use different muscles and hold yourself differently\, it brings out the best in people. The way I make samosas is second nature to me. I’ve learned my techniques over a lifetime\, and I am very happy to share them with you!”  \n \n\n\n\nON THE MENU (subject to change): \n\nHanid (Lamb Stew with Tamarind Gravy) | Meat (Lamb); Celery\nSoor Iyo Cagaar Maraq (Vegetable Stew Served on Cornmeal) | Vegan; Celery\nSambusa | Vegan; Gluten (Wheat)\nBariis Iskukaris (Rainbow Rice) | Vegan; None\nShigni (Chilli\, Date and Mango Sauce) | Vegan; None\nCoconut Sauce | Vegetarian; Milk\n\n \nThis menu contains meat (lamb) but is vegetarian-friendly\, with 5 of 6 dishes meat-free. SUMMARY:Ethiopian Cookery Class with Tarik | Vegetarian | LONDON | Cookery School
DESCRIPTION:Chef Tarik will teach delicious\, authentic Ethiopian dishes followed by a sit-down meal.\n\n\nABOUT THE CUISINE \n \nEthiopian cuisine is one of the oldest and most distinctive culinary traditions in the world. At its heart is injera\, a soft\, fermented flatbread that serves as both the plate and the utensil\, bringing people together to share a meal from a single platter. Recipes vary across Ethiopia’s regions and communities\, but food is always closely tied to hospitality\, family\, and celebration. Built around pulses\, vegetables\, warming spice blends\, and slow-cooked dishes\, Ethiopian cooking is as much about sharing and connection as it is about flavour.  \n \nABOUT THE CHEF \n“My name is Tarik and I am from Ethiopia – a country in East Africa\, which has a long history and is home to many. We are proud to have 83 different languages. The Ethiopian Orthodox Church combines elements of the Old and New Testament; this old history combined with Ethiopia’s natural beauty of volcanos\, mountains and lakes now attracts many tourists to Ethiopia.  \n \nMy grandmother inspired me to cook and taught me a lot about cooking – she said I was a quick learner! She loved people and every day\, she would make traditional Ethiopian coffee and invite all of our neighbours and friends to our home. She loves to cook for special occasions\, especially at New Year. My grandmother also taught me the importance of kindness and being helpful and I think of her when I am cooking.  \n \nWhen I arrived in the UK\, I continued my love of cookery and volunteered in community\, church and Red Cross kitchens\, in Liverpool and in Preston. I was referred to Migrateful by the Luminary Bakery and I love it so much! I look forward to teaching you about Ethiopian culture and about our food and drinks – I can’t wait to see you in my class!” \n \n\n\n\nON THE MENU (subject to change): \n \n\nDinich Wot (Spicy Potato and Egg Stew) | Vegetarian; Eggs\, Milk   \nTikil Gomen (Ethiopian Sauteed Cabbage with Carrot and Potato) | Vegan; None\nGomen (Slow-Cooked Ethiopian Greens) | Vegan; None\nShiro Wot (Roasted Ground Chickpea Stew) | Vegetarian; Milk\nKey Sir (Ethiopian Braised Beetroot) | Vegan; None   \nMista Salad (Green Lentil Salad) | Vegan; Mustard\nAyib (Ethiopian Cottage Cheese) | Vegetarian; Milk   \nDabo (Orange-Perfumed Bread)| Vegetarian; Gluten (Wheat)\, Milk\n\n                                                                                                                \nThis menu is vegetarian.
