DESCRIPTION:Chef Hani will teach you some of his favourite Omani dishes followed by a sit down meal.\n\n\nABOUT THE CUISINE \nOmani cuisine blends Asian influences with aromatic spices and herbs from the Middle East that bring warmth to every dish – like Hani’s Makbous\, a popular and traditional rice dish that is known for its deep\, aromatic taste and considered a symbol of Omani hospitality. \n \nABOUT THE CHEF \nMy name is Hani\, and I come from the Sultanate of Oman — a beautiful country in the Middle East with a rich history\, deep-rooted traditions\, and a vibrant culinary culture. \nMy mum taught me to cook – she is Egyptian and I really love Egyptian food. My dad was from Oman\, and I think this has helped me create my own type of cuisine – a mix of Egyptian and Omani food. \nMy dad also loved to cook\, so I had two very good teachers. I improved my cooking skills through observing and working with chefs in my restaurant business. Now I’m in the UK\, I’m starting a new chapter and bringing with me the flavours of Oman. I hope to open my own restaurant business in London one day. It is my honour to serve as a culinary ambassador for my homeland — to connect people\, cultures\, and communities\, one dish at a time. \n\n\n\nON THE MENU (subject to change): \n\nShorba (Oat and Chicken Soup with Vermicelli) | Meat (Chicken); Celery\, Gluten (Wheat)\, Milk\nOmani Samosa | Meat (Beef) and Vegetarian; Milk\, Gluten (Wheat)\, Sulphites\nVegetable Saloona (Vegetable Stew with Dried Lime) | Vegetarian; Celery\, Milk\nMakbous (Spiced Rice Pilaf) | Vegetarian; Celery\, Milk\nTuna Salad | Fish (Tuna); Fish\, Sulphites\nOmani Khabeesa (Rose and Saffron Dessert) | Vegetarian; Milk\, Gluten (Wheat)\, Tree Nuts (Almonds)\n\nThis menu contains meat (chicken and beef) and fish (tuna). Allergens include: celery\, fish\, gluten\, milk\, sulphites\, tree nuts. \nPlease let us know if you have any specific dietary requirements so our team is aware ahead of the class\, but kindly note that we will not be substituting any ingredients to accommodate dietary needs\, so please only book into classes that suit your dietary requirements. \nJoin Hani’s hands-on\, social cookery class in London to learn to make authentic Omani dishes — and celebrate the flavours\, skills\, and culinary traditions refugees bring to the UK. \n \nTHE CLASS FORMAT \nOur cookery classes are family-style – meaning everyone works together to prepare the dishes as a team. \nWhile you’ll be asked to choose one dish to focus on\, you’ll have the opportunity to move around the kitchen\, help with other dishes\, and learn from each recipe. It’s a fun\, social\, and collaborative way to cook! At the end of the class\, you’ll sit down with the chef\, class facilitator and volunteers to enjoy the delicious meal you’ve created together. \n \n\n\n\nREMINDERS \nWe’re excited to have you in the class! Culturally I am Uyghur\, an ethnic Muslim minority located in Central Asia (now part of China called Xinjiang). The dishes I teach in my class are a mix of the two cultures I come from. I learned to cook from my Mum. She used to call my sisters and me to assist her with cooking. I was her main helper\, especially when it came to pulling noodles. \nWhen I was in high school and had our summer holiday\, my mum trusted me enough to cook for the family and I insisted she write me the recipes with every little detail. I got paid for it! My mum taught me to cook several cuisines from around the world but my favourites were Saudi & Uyghur. Iranian food is deeply social\, with meals shared in warm\, communal gatherings\, a celebration of hospitality\, and connection. \n \nABOUT THE CHEF \nA message from Chef Rose: \n“My name is Rose\, and I moved to the UK two years ago. One of the things I have loved about coming here is meeting people from all over the world\, I believe food is a wonderful way to learn about eachother and discover new cultures\, traditions\, and stories. \nBefore moving to the UK\, I studied midwifery and later trained in surgery. I worked in a surgical department for 17 years. Although my career was in healthcare\, food has always played an important role in my life. \nMy mother was an excellent cook and was well known among family and friends for her delicious meals and desserts. She wanted me to focus on my education\, so she never really taught me how to cook. However\, growing up with her wonderful food taught me what good food should taste like and gave me a real appreciation for cooking. \nI only started cooking after I got married. In Iranian culture\, preparing food for the family is often an important part of home life. To my surprise\, I learned very quickly\, and before long people were complimenting my food and asking for my recipes. I believe I owe this to my mother. Nothing makes me happier than seeing people enjoy a meal that I have prepared. \nThrough my cooking\, I hope to share not only the flavours of Iran but also the warmth\, hospitality\, and traditions that are such an important part of Iranian culture.” \n \n \n\n\n\n \nON THE MENU (subject to change) \n\nMirza Ghasemi (Aubergine Dip) | Vegetarian; Egg\nAdas Polo (Sweet and Fragrant Lentil Rice) | Vegetarian; Milk\nAsh Reshteh (Noodle Soup) | Vegetarian; Milk\, Gluten (Wheat)\nBorani Esfenaj (Spinach Dip) | Vegetarian; Milk\, Tree Nuts (Walnuts)\nSambusa (Spiced Potato Filo Parcels) | Vegan; Gluten (Wheat)\nTas Kebab (Tangy Chicken with Quince and Plums) | Meat (Chicken); None\n\nThis menu contains meat (chicken) but is vegetarian-friendly\, with 5 of 6 dishes meat-free.
