SUMMARY:Egyptian Cookery Class with Amro | Veg Friendly | LONDON | Cookery School
DESCRIPTION:Chef Amro will teach you some of his favourite Eygptian dishes followed by a sit down meal.\n\n\nABOUT THE CUISINE \nEgyptian cuisine comes from the northeast corner of Africa\, along the Nile River\, and is one of the oldest and richest culinary traditions in the world. From the hearty street food of Cairo to regional specialties along the Nile Delta\, dishes combine legumes\, grains\, fresh vegetables\, herbs\, and spices. Meals are hands-on\, social\, and meant to be shared\, with signature dishes like Koshary and Fatteh highlighting both comfort and community in Egyptian food culture. \n \nABOUT THE CHEF \nA message from chef Amro: \n“Hello\, my name is Amro and I am from Egypt – from the North. My city\, Damitta\, is famous for furniture\, sweets and cheese. I am from a large family and I am the only boy with three sisters. \nAfter I graduated from university as a computer engineer\, I went to work in Kuwait. I worked there for 17 years in the Ministry of Education and the University of Kuwait before I moved to the UK in 2023 with my wife and my two children (I now have three)! \nWhen I was at home in Egypt\, it was always my mother who did the cooking. Although I didn’t cook then\, I learnt a lot from watching her. But when I was living alone in Kuwait\, especially for the first 3 years before I married\, I had to learn how to cook for myself! \nAs I spent half of my life in Egypt and the other half in Kuwait\, I have influences from both countries in my cooking. For example\, from my home country\, a famous dish that everyone there loves is Koshary – a delicious vegetarian dish. And from Kuwai\, I enjoy cooking Majboos\, a lamb dish with raisins and nuts\, which is often served for big celebrations. \nI look forward to cooking these dishes with you”. \n \nON THE MENU (subject to change): \n\nEgyptian Koshary (Rice with Vermicelli\, Lentils\, Chickpeas and Spicy Tomato Sauce) | Vegan; Gluten (Wheat & Barley)\, Sulphites\nEgyptian Hawaashi (Flatbread filled with Spiced Lamb or Mushrooms) | Meat (Lamb) and Vegetarian; Gluten (Wheat)\, Milk\, Sulphites\nAubergine Fatteh (Fried Aubergine with Tahini Yoghurt\, Fried Bread and Pomegranate) | Vegetarian; Gluten (Wheat)\, Milk\, Peanuts\, Sesame\, Tree Nuts (Pine Nuts)\nSalata Khadra (Egyptian Salad) | Vegetarian; Milk\, Sulphites\nQataif (Pancakes filled with Sweet Ricotta and Pistachios) | Vegetarian; Gluten (Wheat)\, Milk\, Sesame\, Soya\, Tree Nuts (Pistachio & Walnuts)\n\nThis menu is mostly vegetarian but contains one dish with meat (lamb)\, with vegetarian filling options. Allergens include: gluten\, milk\, peanuts\, sesame\, soya\, sulphites\, tree nuts. \nPlease let us know if you have any specific dietary requirements so our team is aware ahead of the class. Kindly note that we will not be substituting any ingredients to accommodate dietary needs\, so please only book into classes that suit your dietary requirements. \nJoin Amro’s hands-on\, social cookery class in London to learn to make authentic Egyptian dishes — and celebrate the flavours\, skills\, and culinary traditions refugees bring to the UK. \n \nTHE CLASS FORMAT \nOur cookery classes are family-style – meaning everyone works together to prepare the dishes as a team. \nWhile you’ll be asked to choose one dish to focus on\, you’ll have the opportunity to move around the kitchen\, help with other dishes\, and learn from each recipe. It’s a fun\, social\, and collaborative way to cook! At the end of the class\, you’ll sit down with the chef\, class facilitator and volunteers to enjoy the delicious meal you’ve created together. \n \nREMINDERS \nWe’re excited to have you in the class! SUMMARY:Sri Lankan Cookery Class with Akram|LONDON| Cookery School
DESCRIPTION:Chef Akram will teach delicious\, authentic Sri Lankan dishes followed by a sit-down meal.\n\n\nABOUT THE CUISINE \nSri Lankan cuisine is vibrant\, aromatic\, and shaped by centuries of cultural exchange and coastal trade. Meals often balance bold spices with fresh coconut\, tropical fruits\, lentils\, and seafood. Akram’s dishes highlight the heart of Sri Lankan home cooking\, where hand-prepared curries\, sambals\, and rice-based dishes bring layers of flavour and warmth to the table. Expect richly spiced\, fragrant meals that showcase the island’s culinary heritage\, blending vegetarian\, seafood\, and meat dishes in a communal and celebratory style. \n \nABOUT THE CHEF \nA message from our Chef Akram: \n“Hello\, My name is Akram\, I come from Sri Lanka. I am the youngest of five. I have three brothers and one sister. I was born and grew up on the east coast by the sea in a place called Batticaloa. I learnt to cook from my mother when I was young. My favourite dishes were Okra and Fish Curry\, made with fresh coconut. I love playing cricket and on Sundays\, I would go to the beach and fish. Any fish that I caught I would take home and cook fresh that day. Another favourite dish of mine is Beef Biryani which we cooked when we had family celebrations – which could include up to thirty people. When I first came to the UK I lived in Yorkshire\, in Halifax\, and I worked in a community kitchen as a chef. SUMMARY:Somali Cookery Class with Saada | Veg Friendly | Bristol
DESCRIPTION:Chef Saada will teach delicious\, authentic Somali dishes followed by a sit-down meal.\n\n\nABOUT THE CUISINE \nSomalia\, located on the coast of the Indian Ocean\, is considered the gateway between the Horn of Africa and the Middle East. It’s key position in the spice trade route is reflected in the fragrant and aromatic spices central to Somali cooking. The cuisine is a blend of African\, Middle Eastern\, Italian and Indian influences. Expect fragrant rices\, fresh herbs\, and a balance of sweet and savory in every bite. From Hanid (lamb stew with tamarind gravy) to Bajiyo (falafel) and Bariis Iskukaris (rainbow rice). Somali food brings people together\, celebrating hospitality\, bold flavours and the joy of sharing home cooked meals. \n \nIn this cookery class in Bristol\, you’ll learn to make traditional Somali dishes while connecting with others and supporting refugees and migrants in the UK through food. \n \nABOUT THE CHEF \nA message from chef Saada: \n“Hi my name is Saada. I grew up in Somalia\, East Africa\, with my mum and dad and three siblings – I’m the second oldest. I learned to cook with my Mum. She had her own recipes and her own way of cooking. I stayed at her side while she cooked – she needed my help and I was so interested. I would stand with her for six hours at a time. I stayed at school until I was 9 years old and then I stopped. But I wanted to carry on learning so I kept reading and teaching myself.  \nGradually I started cooking more\, by the age of 12 I was cooking for the family.   \n \nI came to the UK in 2004\, first to Weston Super Mare then to Bristol. I met and married my husband that same year and had my first baby in 2005. Now I have four children! As well as cooking for my family\, I cook at lunch clubs and organise celebrations and events for older people\, for women\, in schools and for young people. Always bringing people together through food. \n \nI like teaching – seeing people concentrate. When you cook\, you use different muscles and hold yourself differently\, it brings out the best in people. The way I make samosas is second nature to me.
