Before leaving Jamaica\, I used to cook from home and sell the food for a living. My food was very popular and I really enjoyed doing it. \nWhen I moved to the UK\, I worked in a Caribbean restaurant for many years. My coleslaw was famous at the restaurant! I grew up in Spanish Town\, the capital of the Parish of St Catherine. We lived very centrally as my mum worked in the market in town\, selling fish and fresh vegetables. I would often help my mum at the market and I learnt to cook through watching her. \nSometimes when she was working\, I would look after my younger siblings and would cook for them. \nMy passion for cooking only grew and I often cooked for my neighbours and for parties and celebrations for my friends and family. I love seeing satisfaction and joy on people’s faces when I cook for them. My favourite dish is ackee and salt fish – so much so that when I moved to Antigua I brought an ackee tree to plant in my garden and this is something that I always cook for my two children. \nI’ve been in Bristol for a year now and it’s a very friendly and supportive city. I’m volunteering with local refugee charities Bristol Hospitality Network and Borderlands. When I got my refugee status last year I held a big picnic in the park for my friends to celebrate. Jamaican food is spicy and full of flavour\, using lots of fresh vegetables and herbs. \nCooking and eating Jamaican food helps me reconnect to home\, music is also very important to me and I love dancing while I cook – no matter what is going on in life\, it makes me feel happy. I’m very excited to share my recipes with you!” \n \nWe’re excited to have you in the class! SUMMARY:(SOLD OUT) Palestinian Cookery Class with Dr. Amna| LONDON|Cookery School
DESCRIPTION:Chef Amna will teach delicious\, authentic Palestinian dishes followed by a sit-down meal. Warm & easy\, like being with family!\n\n\nABOUT THE CUISINE \nPalestinian cuisine has a rich culinary history shaped by agriculture\, trade\, and centuries of cultural exchange. Dishes like Sayadieh (seafood rice)\, stuffed vine leaves\, and crispy flatbreads are made to be shared\, highlighting the social\, hands-on nature of meals. Every dish reflects the warmth\, generosity\, and heritage of Palestinian culture. \n \nABOUT THE CHEF \nA message from chef Amna: \n“My name is Amna from Gaza\, Palestine and I came to the UK in the winter of 2022. In Gaza\, I was a university lecturer in psychology for 20 years and a director of a charity supporting mothers and children. I have 5 children: 2 daughters who still live in Gaza\, a son and daughter in Canada and a son in London. \nAs a young woman\, I lived in Libya. I married there\, brought up my children and achieved my degree and my Masters. Libya’s sky seemed open to my dreams and I was very happy there. \nWhen I first arrived in the UK\, I had nothing here and felt lonely and ashamed. I am thankful to have become part of the Migrateful family. Migrateful has helped me feel more positive and I am happy to share my food and my culture. \nWhen I cook I always think of my mother. I don’t use recipes but cook by a sense I inherited from her. My mother and father always talked about their life before Gaza – I have never been to their home in Ashdod but I feel I know it. My father caught fish\, and they always had fresh vegetables from the countryside. I am passionate about making healthy and nutritious food. I was a teacher in Algeria but wasn’t able to continue teaching when I moved to the UK in 2015. After I met my wonderful husband\, we quickly had children and I began to spend more time at home. During this time\, I realised my passion for cooking and baking. I cooked so much for my friends and family that they told me to stop as they feared they were getting fat. In the future\, I want to open my own bakery where I can share Algerian food and culture with people in London. DESCRIPTION:Chef Raha will teach you some of her favourite Iranian dishes followed by a sit down meal. Warm & easy\, like being with family!\n\n\nABOUT THE CUISINE \nIranian cuisine comes from the Middle East and Central Asia\, shaped by a rich history of Persian culture\, regional diversity\, and trade along the Silk Road. It combines fresh herbs\, grains\, legumes\, fruits\, nuts\, and spices to create balanced and aromatic dishes. In the UK\, you have English\,Scottish\, Welsh and Irish people. In Iran\, we have Turkish\, Arab\, Kurdish and Lorish people. I am Lorish. When I was nine\, my mum went to work and didn’t have time to cook\, so I cooked for her. From a young age\, I would change recipes. I still do! My children ask me what a dish is called\, but I have often just created it\, so it does not have a name! Food is very important in my country. We consider food to be part of the joy of life;it is not just for survival. A meal should not only be the taste\, it should be how it looks\, how it smells and how it feels. I arrived in the UK in January 2024 with my husband and two daughters. At first\, I was worried about everything\, but I have found that British people are very kind. Someone referred me to Migrateful\, and here I am today. I want to share my country’s delicious recipes. SUMMARY:(SOLD OUT) Ecuadorian Cookery Class with Judith|Veg Friendly|LONDON| Pop up
DESCRIPTION:Chef Judith will teach you some of her favourite Ecuadorian dishes followed by a sit down meal. Warm & easy\, like being with family!\n\n\nABOUT THE CUISINE \nEcuadorian cuisine comes from South America and reflects the country’s diverse geography\, from the Pacific coast to the Andes mountains and the Amazon rainforest. It combines fresh seafood\, tropical fruits\, vegetables\, grains\, and spices to create vibrant\, flavourful dishes. Meals are hands-on\, social\, and made to be shared\, with signature dishes like Ceviche\, Tigrillo\, and Empanadas highlighting the warmth\, creativity\, and communal spirit of Ecuadorian food culture. \n \nABOUT THE CHEF \nA message from our Chef Judith: \n“My name is Judith\, and I am from Ecuador\, a beautiful country in South America. I grew up in Santo Domingo de los Tsachilas\, an area located between the coast and the mountains\, so we had the best produce. I grew up in a big family where food and music were always part of our joy – we loved getting together\, sharing meals\, and dancing. In Ecuador\, you can find four seasons in one day by travelling from one part of the country to another\, and that means that you can experience many different types of food in the country. When I came to England\, I started to do some voluntary work in a ‘healthy living’ community group\, and I used to run a session on healthy eating – this is reflected in my menu today. Teaching others about Ecuadorian food helps me feel close to my country and reminds me that even far from home\, we can still celebrate who we are and connect with others through culture and food. Each dish I create carries the soul of my homeland that is inspired by the unique beauty of the Amazon\, where the jungle speaks and nature is sacred. My hands work with love\, honouring my roots and sharing a little piece of living nature with the world.” \n \n\n\n\n \nON THE MENU (subject to change): \n\nTwo Ceviche | Fish (Prawns) and Vegan; Celery\, Crustaceans\, Mustard\nTigrillo (Plantain Hash) | Vegetarian; Eggs\, Milk\, Peanuts\nEstofado de Carne y Chocolate (Beef Stew with Chocolate) | Meat (Beef); Celery\nEstofado de Vegetales (Golden Vegetable Stew) | Vegan; Celery\nEmpanadas de Viento (Cheese-Filled Pastries) | Vegetarian; Eggs\, Gluten (Wheat)\, Milk\nColada Morada (Warm Fruit Punch) | Vegan; None\n\nThis menu contains meat (beef) and fish (prawns) but is vegetarian-friendly (5/6 dishes are meat-free).
