The Migrateful Theory of Change

Our mission is to support refugees and migrants on their journey to employment and independence. We aim to promote integration by shifting negative attitudes towards migration. We do this by facilitating positive contact between newly arrived migrants and members of the host country.

CHEF STORIES

Behind Every Dish Lies A Tale

Razieh

“When I came to the UK, I stopped hosting big events as I lost my confidence and found the language barrier difficult. Working with Migrateful has meant that my confidence has returned.

Betty

“It builds up your confidence in a way and you see people enjoying what you’ve made, it makes you feel good. It’s made me come out of my shell with people. My English has improved and it has helped me to communicate.”

Najee

Migrateful was that spark in my life that was needed. For a while after I migrated here, I had lost something in me. I found a family in this community and felt like I belonged. There’s many things to say but one thing I can confidently put out there is you will never feel judged and less then anyone.

Elahe

A lot of my happiest memories are associated with food. I remember as a child waking up to the smell of my grandmother’s bread which filled the house with the world’s most beautiful smell. Food is an important way for me to stay connected to my past and to my country.”

Urmila

“Migrateful has changed a lot in my life and helped me to speak
better in English by building a relationship with the participants and sharing our stories.”

Testimonials

Hear From our participants

“a unique culinary experience”

I’m so glad I got to fit in a Migrateful class on my trip to London! Our chef Ahmed was a pro – he taught us how to make dishes I’ve never seen before and even shared some helpful cooking tips! Would definitely recommend for anyone who is looking for a unique culinary experience that makes a difference!

“A great evening”

A great evening with Ahmed and the gang. I really enjoyed it and the team were absolutely fantastic, they were especially kind with putting up with the likes of me and all my questions while we were cooking. I really loved the kitchen dining room set up and thought it was so nicely laid out and welcoming. All my fellow diners were also really enjoying the experience and the feedback around the table was great.

“home food at its best”

The speed was great but the stories and humanness behind learning were amazing. Learning from a professional chef loses its passion and love. This was home food at its best passed down from generations. Brilliant experience. Thank you, Delores, you were wonderful!

“really knowledgeable”

Urmilla was great – really knowledgeable and she explained things very clearly. Great to have some new cooking tips that are transferable and not just limited to these particular recipes. The menu was brilliant – we will definitely cook it again! Thank you!

“Inspiring Class”

The class was amazing, Helen gave great instructions and the food tasted incredible. Thank you for sharing your expertise, we will definitely be recreating this dish again. It was also lovely to hear about Eritrean culture, I love that food is centred around sharing.

“Brilliantly led and facilitated”

Brilliantly led and facilitated. The chef and facilitator worked really well as a team making sure everyone was keeping up, answering any questions and showing us how all the ingredients looked so we could be sure we were doing it right. Best of all the food was DELICIOUS! I will definitely be making these Pakoras again.

“DELICIOUS!”

The food was DELICIOUS! I’m a beginner at cooking, I learnt so much I will be making these dishes again, Stella was great and clear, I loved her positive attitude and dancing, I will definitely do more classes in the future as well as do a class with Stella when she does a new dish. Stella is an amazing woman.

“Class-inspired dinner!”

This was my second class and I absolutely love the cause and the fact that we get to try cuisines that we wouldn’t normally. The courgette fritters were absolutely divine, in fact we are making them again tonight! Thank you Deshira for sharing your wonderful food and your experiences with us!

“Intimate and easy”

I loved how intimate it felt, especially seeing Kay cooking at home. It was really easy to follow and all ingredients were easy to get hold of.
