About the chef

Akram

Sri Lanka

Hello, My name is Akram, I come from Sri Lanka. I am the youngest of five. I have three brothers and one sister. I was born and grew up on the east coast by the sea in a place called Batticaloa.

I learnt to cook from my mother when I was young. My favourite dishes were Okra and Fish Curry, made with fresh coconut.

More About My Story

I love playing cricket and on Sundays, I would go to the beach and fish. Any fish that I caught I would take home and cook fresh that day. We had family celebrations, for up to thirty people, and the favourite dishes made were my curries – that I would now like to share with you

When I first came to the UK I lived in Yorkshire, in Halifax, and I worked in a community kitchen as a chef. More recently I have moved to London and I am excited to continue my work as a chef, cooking my Sri Lankan cuisine.
