Celebration is at the heart of all we do at Migrateful. Our vision is an inclusive world that celebrates the contribution of everyone, no matter where they come from, and each of our cookery classes brings people together to learn about, appreciate and celebrate the wonderful Migrateful chefs in our community, as well as their cuisines and culture.

So, what makes a great celebration? Whether it’s a birthday party, an office Christmas team social or an event based around a specific theme or national day, how do you ensure your event is a winner? You can plan endlessly, but there are certain key ingredients that will ensure a recipe for success.

With the party season fast approaching, we’re diving into some of the ways you might make your upcoming events a triumph. And who better to ask than our community of Migrateful chefs, staff, cookery class facilitators and volunteers – the magic behind the 4,506 classes (and counting!) we’ve run in our time!

What makes a great event?

“Delicious food and great presentation and decor. Events should appeal to the eyes and the taste buds!” Yasemin, Turkish Migrateful chef

“For me, meeting with people is very important and interesting. Also, dancing and storytelling are very fun. I like events because in my country you have a party every day. People really love to party and everyone has a special room at home and equipment and everything for party, expensive and nice, beautiful.” Sanobar, Tajik Migrateful chef from Uzbekistan

“Food (obviously), good music, wonderful people and laughter. I love the bring a dish, share the washing up mentality. It means you can hold gatherings more often if you love to host as you’re not stuck with all the prep and the clear-up and everyone has their part to play in making the event special. Plus you always end up with a huge feast! Oh, and wherever possible throw in a toast or a speech. I love a good speech.” Kate, Senior Business Development Manager

“Good company: Having the right mix of guests is crucial. Whether it’s family, friends, or colleagues, a crowd that clicks well enhances the overall vibe, encouraging conversation and fun. Also, great food and drinks: Good food is a central part of any gathering. Providing a variety of delicious, well-prepared dishes or snacks accommodates different tastes and adds a special touch to the experience. A good selection of drinks, alcoholic and non-alcoholic, enhances the enjoyment.” Shereem, Sri Lankan Migrateful chef

“What makes a great event? It is going into a gathering, like a Migrateful one, where individuals are happy to be there and content just to be themselves. And if possible, and wanted, you can move around the room to enjoy each other’s company. And I should add, it is best to be in a place where there are spaces where music and noise levels are not too high – so you can hear the person you are talking to…there are so many diverse wonderful views and stories out there…and you want to appreciate them!” Jay, Chef Training Mentor

“A great party is incomplete without food or music.” Noor, Pakistani Migrateful chef

“Playing games and icebreaker questions. In our Migrateful classes, most of people, we don’t know each other, we don’t know they are chef, facilitator, staff from the office or volunteer, so it’s good for us to know because you all are one family so we have to know each other!” KTK, Pakistani Migrateful Chef

“For me, it has got to be whipping out the limbo. At first, people usually act shy but there are always some dark horses who come through with the flexibility and talent. Normally, it’s not long before everyone is getting involved and having a whale of a time.” Carina, PR & Marketing Officer

If you’re after a guaranteed good time with your friends, family or colleagues, but don’t fancy the stress of pulling it all together, we’ve got you covered with our private cookery experiences, which run in London, Bristol and online.

These are excellent, out-of-the-ordinary alternatives to traditional team-building activities, work socials, and friend and family get-togethers. You can enjoy a bespoke group learning, dining and social experience with food and stories from a Migrateful chef of your choice. Our classes and demos also give our teachers an opportunity to build on linguistic and interpersonal skills, expand their network, and access work opportunities.
