“My name is Uchenna, and I come from Nnewi in Anambra State, in the eastern part of Nigeria. Nigeria is home to three major ethnic groups Igbo, Yoruba, and Hausa and more than 200 languages. I am proud to be from the Igbo tribe, a people known for their rich culture, resilience, and love of food.

Growing up, I never imagined that cooking would become such an important part of my life. My mother owned the largest and most popular restaurant in our town and was passionate about cooking, while I preferred other household chores.

Everything changed when I went to university and had to learn how to feed myself. I often called my mother and younger sister for recipes and guidance. What began as a necessity soon became a hobby and a source of joy.

My journey with Migrateful has reignited my confidence and passion. After attending a Migrateful Open Day, I felt inspired and, just three days later, volunteered to cook at St James’s Church on International Women’s Day. It was a turning point that helped me rediscover myself.

Now, I am excited to welcome you to my class and share authentic Nigerian flavours, stories, and traditions through food. I look forward to cooking with you and giving you a true taste of Nigeria.”
